Inspiration for this piece originated with the life cycle, the idea that from one thing ending another can begin, with new life springing from the death of an old one, as organisms that decompose give nutrition to others, feeding the soil. As nothing is more symbolic of death than the skeleton, I decided to depict the sturdy bones in black graphite to show life at it’s end, whilst entangling it in the more lively and vibrant vegetation, painted with watercolours, to create a contrast, showing the plants using this structure as something to hold onto for support as they flourish.
